QDSA is proud to announce the addition of the University of the Sunshine Coast to the Australian Defence Science and Universities Network (ADSUN), bringing significant research capabilities in systems science; defence and veteran health and wellbeing; smart computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI); intelligent sensors, circuits and systems; along with geospatial capabilities and advanced materials and manufacturing.
This marks a significant expansion and new collaborative opportunities within Australia’s Defence Innovation, Science and Technology (IS&T) ecosystem to address Defence challenges.
Over the past two years, QDSA has successfully launched 11 collaboration projects across academia and industry, amounting to over $6.1 million in value for Queensland and the Northern Territory.
According to QDSA Director, Stuart Blackwell, the inclusion of the University of the Sunshine Coast is expected to further bolster these efforts:
“We are thrilled to welcome the University of the Sunshine Coast, whose strength in smart computing, human factors and human performance, intelligent sensors, and geospatial capabilities will enhance our collaborative network,” said Stuart Blackwell, QDSA Director.
“Their unique capabilities will undoubtedly propel our shared goal of solving Defence innovation challenges through collaboration with Northern Australia based industry and Defence.”
Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of the Sunshine Coast, Professor Ross Young expressed enthusiasm about the partnership:
“Joining QDSA is a tremendous opportunity for us to contribute cutting-edge research and technology in AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced materials towards national Defence objectives. We are eager to collaborate and innovate alongside industry and other leading Australian research institutions here in Queensland and across the country, particularly in the area of human performance.”
QDSA serves as the Queensland and Northern Territory node of ADSUN, connecting universities, industry, and government to take proof of concept to prototype stage, delivering tangible solutions to Defence needs.
The University of the Sunshine Coast will be the fifth QDSA university member alongside Griffith University, James Cook University, the University of Queensland, Charles Darwin University, and supported bythe Queensland State Government and DSTG.
