The Queensland Defence Science Alliance (QDSA) is thrilled to welcome the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) as the newest member of its esteemed network, bringing the total number of university members across Queensland and the Northern Territory to six.
The inclusion of UniSQ significantly bolsters QDSA’s expertise and facilities, particularly in the areas of hypersonic design, testing capabilities for propulsion systems, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing and materials essential for Defence applications.
QDSA Director Stuart Blackwell said the partnership with UniSQ expands the research capabilities available to industry partners across Northern Australia, providing a broader pool of collaborators and further advancing Defence innovation.
“UniSQ’s integration into our network is a pivotal moment that strengthens our hypersonics and launch capabilities. Their prominent role in the iLAuNCH Trailblazer program further highlights their potential and achievements over the past five years,” Mr Blackwell said.
“Additionally, UniSQ’s expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Autonomous systems marks an essential advancement in our offerings, aligning with emerging Defence innovation priorities.”
UniSQ Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Development and Commercialisation) Professor Robert Sang said UniSQ was excited to become a member of the QDSA ADSUN network.
“Joining the network presents a great opportunity to contribute to innovative defence research while strengthening connections across the sector,” he said.
As the Queensland and Northern Territory node of the Australian Defence Science and Universities Network (ADSUN), QDSA continues to gain momentum, doubling its network of member universities in the last 18 months.
This growth signifies the alliance’s commitment to aligning with the Defence Innovation Science and Technology strategy, facilitating research and industry collaboration to advance Defence solutions.
“We welcome more members from Queensland who are eager to be part of a national program dedicated to defence research excellence. QDSA and the ADSUN network are considered the ‘front door’ for industry and university engagement into DSTG and the broader Defence Innovation System,” Mr Blackwell noted.
“QDSA’s continued expansion illustrates our enthusiasm to unify research and industry to create solutions that address Defence challenges,” he said.
