The Queensland Defence Science Alliance (QDSA) is pleased to announce the formalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian Industry & Defence Network (AIDN). This strategic partnership marks a significant advancement in alignment with the Defence Industry Development Strategy and the Defence Innovation Science & Technology Strategy, particularly in facilitating the transition of technology from research to industry.
The MoU represents a critical step in linking university research with the defence industry, establishing essential connections to transition emerging asymmetric technologies from academic institutions to the defence sector.
Stu Blackwell, Director of QDSA, said, “This partnership is a pivotal development for QDSA. By bridging the gap between research and industry, we are well-positioned to accelerate innovation and significantly enhance Australia’s defence capabilities.”
QDSA recognises the potential of this collaboration to unite two dynamic communities, enabling groundbreaking research to be realised and demonstrated to Defence.
The MoU provides substantial benefits for the QDSA community, fostering closer collaboration at the Proof of Concept Stage. This collaboration can expedite the development of prototypes for demonstration to Defence and Industry, offering a strategic advantage through technological asymmetry.
Mike Johnson, AIDN CEO, said: “This MOU underpins one of AIDN’s central pillars – Educate, where we can and are, taking a proactive approach to ensuring Australia’s best and most innovative concepts and technologies are being brought to market, thereby enabling an asymmetric advantage for Australia’s war fighters.”
Furthermore, the MoU permits AIDN members to participate in exclusive QDSA events, including functions, collaborative workshops, and briefings. This initiative aims to strengthen ties between these communities, promoting accelerated innovation across Queensland, the Northern Territory, and nationally.
